Demon Logistics delivers more with integrated shipping labelsDemon Logistics delivers more with integrated shipping labels

Demon Logistics, the Hertfordshire depot of APC Overnight, has introduced a new way for their customers to include shipping information within their own delivery labels. Using an innovative web service from NetDespatch, Demon's customers can use the service to electronically request the information normally printed on the APC Overnight parcel label and embed it directly within their own shipping labels.

Demon Logistics has always been an early adopter of NetDespatch technology, and already has a high volume retail customer using the service. An automated XML request from the retailer’s warehouse systems receives the new 'label data' response in real time as part of their fulfilment operations. By embedding APC Overnight label information into their own label, their sales order processing, warehouse and delivery operations have been streamlined, with only one label to match to the parcels at point of despatch. Since the latest routing information is always being used, APC Overnight’s high percentage of on-time delivery success is improved even further.

Louise Bradley, General Manager, Demon Logistics says: "This innovation simplifies the labelling process for retail customers who are using their labels for both warehouse picking and for carrying special information about the consignment. For example, the parcel could be a gift rather than a direct purchase. The top portion of the label contains the standard shipping information, with the lower section containing the picking details and any special customer-specific information. Importantly, it means that only one label is necessary. Once orders are picked, the labels are attached to the consignments in the normal manner but in a single operation, saving time and ensuring labelling accuracy".

"Our new XML-format 'integrated shipping label' web service should prove extremely popular as it is simple to use and eliminates the need for costly integration with carriers' routing systems. It also removes the need for old fashioned labelling systems using dedicated PC terminals, and eliminates unnecessary Internet connections and label printers in the warehouse. As part of this wholly integrated shipping process the consignment is also automatically booked into the APC Overnight operational systems, so that Demon Logistics' customers have access to the APC Velocity web shipping system where they can view all their consignments with real time tracking updates and on-line Proof of Delivery signatures" says NetDespatch CEO Becky Clark.
